Diversify Kutuku economy - MP

23 Jun 2013

Ngwaketse West Member of Parliament, Mr Mephato Reatile has encouraged Kutuku residents to enrol for different government programmes and not those under the social and community development only.

Addressing a kgotla meeting in Kutuku recently, Mr Reatile said by using different programmes, residents would be able to diversify their village’s economy and improve the lives of their families.

Principal community development officer for Mabutsane sub-district also assured residents that all Rural Area Development Programme (RADP), poverty eradication and social development projects would be resuscitated.

Mr Nakedi Morwagabuse told residents that they were planning to give life to all projects in the sub-district so that they could benefit the community.

Mr Morwagabuse also told residents that the village bakery became operational after the council intervened and had since been able to participate in the open market days hosted by the sub-district.

He added that the same intervention would be extended to the welding and carpentry businesses in due course so that beneficiaries could start generating their own income and improving their lives.

“The intention is to accumulate all the necessary material for these projects so that they can start operating like promised,” he explained.

Mr Morwagabuse was responding to residents’ concerns that government programmes were lagging behind in their village.

One resident, Mr Omphemetse Mampe had indicated that they had attended poverty eradication workshops in the past but they were yet to be given the necessary assistance to start their projects.

He said some people had long bought material for their projects but nothing was coming forth.

“Some people were told to build kraals where they would keep their LIMID livestock but those kraals have been destroyed because it took long for those people to be assisted,” he said.

Another resident, Mr Phetogo Malwetsi said delayed projects were a drawback for both residents and the development of the village.

He further said that hampered government’s intention to empower its citizens and develop the lives of the people.

“Some of the intended beneficiaries have fallen sick as we speak and I wonder if they would still be able to undertake those projects by the time they are finally assisted,” he said.  ENDS
