Affirmative action plan benefits 23

23 Jun 2013

About 23 Malatswai residents have been accorded employment opportunities through the Affirmative Action plan in council and central government departments.

Central District Council secretary, Mr Gaolathe Dipholo said during a kgotla meeting addressed by President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama in Malatswai on June 20.

One of the residents, Mr Dipholo said he has been employed by parastatal organisation while others work at Khama Rhino Sanctuary in Serowe.

Mr Dipholo admitted the delays in payments of Ipelegeng employees.

He said the council has gone into an agreement with BotswanaPost to assist Ipelegeng employees with their remunerations.

As for Malatswai, he said the arrangement will not be possible since there is no post office in the village.

Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr Tshimologo Agapile had earlier on stated that they were not benefitting from the Affirmative Action plan.

Mr Agapile said none of Malatswae residents were considered for posts of temporary drivers recently advertised by the council even though they had submitted their applications.

He said those with qualifications and certain trades did not benefit from the initiative.

On other issues, Mr Agapile decried delays in payments of Ipelegeng employees.

He said those under the short term employment were accused of not working hard but were also let down by the council on giving them their dues late.

He said most of them depended on the wages for their daily expenditures.ENDS
