Masisi welcomes new members
22 May 2017
Botswana Democratic Party chairperson, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi has, on Friday, welcomed new members to the party.
The new members were Werda, Makopong and Draaihoek wards residents.
When welcoming the new entrants, Mr Masisi, also the country’s Vice President and MP for Moshupa/Manyana, told BDP members, who attended the rally to welcome new members into the party with open arms to make them feel at home.
He noted with gladness that the new members were mostly young, something he said it was good for the party going forward.
The Vice President urged BDP cadres to recruit most influential opposition members so that they weaken it.
Further, he urged the new members to hit the ground running to ensure that the party grew in numbers and remained coherent.
He reminded the members that the newly joined democrats should enjoy all the benefits as any BDP members, adding that the old ones must be open to competition from new members as that would strengthen the party.
Mr Masisi also urged party members to desist from discussing party matters in public, but rather do that with the set structures within the party.
He advised all to register for new membership as the exercise was still on going.
Moreover, the VP said BDP was a party of choice because it was concerned with the well being of the people of Botswana as evidenced by its initiatives, which sought to develop the communities regardless of their political affiliation.
Meanwhile, the area MP Mr Frans Van der Westhuizen urged his constituents to go and vote Mr Masisi for the chairmanship at the upcoming party congress in July.
He said the VP had shown good leadership skills and as such it was important for them to keep him as a party chairperson as he was the man to stir their ship in the right direction.
The area MP also urged members to ensure that they keep the constituency within the BDP, saying that could only be done through hard work and good relations among the members. ENDS
