Know Your Candidates Tlokweng Parliamentary Bye-Election 2017

10 May 2017

Candidate: Elija Fasion Katse
Constituency: Tlokweng
Political Party: Botswana Democratic Party (BDP)
Date of Birth: 05 May 1955
Place of Birth: Tlokweng
Educational background: Masters’ Degree in Business Administration (MBA), National Diploma in Accounting and Business Administration, Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration, Chartered Institute of Company Secretary (CIS), Member of Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA).
Message to voters: Land issues - Shortage of land is the biggest problem in Tlokweng. There is no more land for livestock and ploughing.
I therefore promise to take a leading role in finding a solution to this problem.
Infrastructure - Tlokweng as one of the major villages in the country is least developed despite its proximity to the country’s capital city - Gaborone.
Tlokweng has a population of over 37 000 and should have a primary health facility, multi sports and recreational facility, Senior Secondary School and a public library.
Worse on the people’s life are - unserviced internal roads, uncontrollable storm water, drift fences between South Africa and Gaborone.
Create awareness and capacity building for the youth, facilitate a series of workshops around the wards, teaching the youth on business planning and management, create awareness of existing government programmes aimed creating jobs and poverty eradication, hold regular kgotla meetings on any development that affect the constituency and work harmoniously with the community and other stakeholders in the constituency.

Candidate: Kenneth Masego Segokgo
Constituency: Tlokweng
Political Party: Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC)
Date of Birth: 13 May 1970
Educational background: Bachelor of Science Degree Education, University of Botswana (1991-1995), PESC – University of Botswana (1990 - 1991)
Message to the voters: I stand before Tlokweng constituents asking for their valuable vote.
I am committed to improve the quality of their lives through critical initiatives and interventions.
Priority will be given to land issues as Batlokwa have no land for residential, farming and commercial purposes.
I will therefore advocate for a negotiated repossession.
I will strongly advocate for a review of the Revised National Policy on Education to improve the poor quality of education, for education with production to create jobs and an environmentally friendly exploitation of natural resources to create surplus jobs and wealth.
I will fight misrule and advocate for a corruption free society and support empowerment and independence of institutions that fight corruption, and also for better working and living conditions of workers as they are creators of national wealth.
Although, Botswana is classified as a middle high income country with a healthy Gross Domestic Product (GDP), majority of workers belong to the working poor category.
The wages and other conditions of service are very deplorable and need to be improved.
I will also address the poor labour relations between government and public sector workers.
I am going to add a voice of reason in Parliament; the government has a duty to promote laws and policies that make the working place conducive for productivity.

Candidate: Shirley Itumeleng Tiny Segokgo

Constituency: Tlokweng
Political Party: Independent Candidate
Date of Birth: 01 March 1955
Educational background: BSC in Mathematical Sciences majoring in Computer Science at Birmingham University (In England), A-levels in Derby in England.
Message to voters: Tlokweng currently seems to be a pawn for political parties with their eyes set on the 2019 political agenda.
For donkey years, Tlokweng has been a BNF stronghold, notwithstanding key issues concerning Batlokwa which have not been dealt with.
The real issues are the future of Batlokwa children, crime and land.
The key issue is meeting the needs of Tlokweng constituents.
The vehicle to deliver this is not going to be a party; in actual fact, bureaucracy inherent in parties will not enable them to be met in the shortest possible time (two and a half years), whereas an independent candidate has nobody to answer to but to you-the people.
I am not new to Parliament and I come with decades worth of experience in governance (corporate and political).
I am backed by a strong educational background. I am very passionate about youth and children as a devoted Christian and real mother at heart.
I have been involved in primary schools in Tlokweng since 2000, making personal sacrifices to uplift and give the youth a future.
I am very conversant with Tlokweng land issues as I have served in the land board. Vote for Shirley Segokgo.
