01 May 2017

The Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi has appealed to Batlokwa to vote for Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) candidate for the bye-election slated for May 13.

Speaking at the launch of Mr Elijah Katse on Saturday April 29 at Border Gate Mall in Tlokweng, Mr Masisi said the BDP candidate had a good track record which was open to everybody to see, noting that it would be a regrettable move if voters could reject him. He said Katse was a man of many hats chief among them being good at finances.

He said his presence at Parliament would add value to parliamentary committees because of his sound financial understanding and therefore appealed to Tlokweng constituents to consider themselves lucky to have such a leader who was well abreast on many issues.

Mr Masisi further noted that Mr Katse would assist in the implementation of NDP 11 which also contained the aspirations and needs of Batlokwa. He said as the ruling party, they were concerned over the lives of people particularly socio-economic issues that affected the rest of the populace.

The Vice President however said with Mr Katse in Parliament, he would actively come up with concepts and strategies which would assist in addressing these thorny issues.

He advised electorates against  voting for opposition Umbrella for Democratic Change saying  the party ‘has no direction’ and currently could not hold proper meetings.

Speaking at the same event, chairperson for BDP South East region, Mr Odirile Motlhale prayed for the vote from all religious groups and all non-aligned people who had no political parties.

Mr Motlhale said Katse had contributed to the development of the country through engagement in various sectors such as the Botswana Football Association, where he excelled. He therefore said Katse was a man of the people and it would not be a bad decision to vote for him because he knew procedure and governance.

For his part, Mr Katse said his track record was well known by all and he did not need to go over it moreso that he had over the years actively taken part in community social projects chief among them, the committee tasked to prepare for installation of the Batlokwa kgosi. ENDS
