Candidates continue to intensify efforts to win the Tlokweng parliamentary elections slated for May 13, 2017.
President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama on Saturday visited the residents accompanied by Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) parliamentary candidate for Tlokweng constituency, Mr Elijah Katse and his campaign team in a bid to canvass for residents' votes and hear their plight. President Khama visited various homesteads in various wards where he sat down with residents to hear their challenges.
He was warmly welcomed as residents seemed to freely open up to him and shared their ill health which they said needed attention.
An old woman, Ms Lesego Gosenyang appreciated the President’s visit to her home which she said had elated her.“Re a leboga ngwanaka, fa o ntse o re lekola jaana ra sidilega ngwanaka,” she said.
Another resident, Ms Pono Kgotlaesele of Khakholo ward shared with the President about her unemployment situation and the poverty situation of her household.
She also appreciated the President’s and the parliamentary candidate’s presence with the hope that her problems, and the challenges she encounters in an attempt to access government programmes and policies would be dealt with.
Ms Puna Francinah of Sefoke ward also shared her plight of poor water drainage system at her household and flooding problems in her yard whenever it rains which she said affects her house.
The Tlokweng constituency parliamentary seat became vacant after the death of the Member of Parliament, Ms Same Bathobakae of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC). Mr Katse will tussle it out with Mr Kenneth Segokgo of the UDC and an independent candidate, Ms Shirley Segokgo. end
