Ipelegeng coordinator decries delivery delays
16 Jun 2013
Delays in delivery of materials for Ipelegeng projects, which resulted in the collapse of some projects, is a major concern in the Tutume Sub-district.
The sub-district’s drought coordinator, Mr Modisaotsile Manewe said suppliers who were contracted to supply cement failed to deliver and this impacted negatively on commencement of the construction projects.
Briefing the sub-district councillors on June 13, Mr Manewe said the contract was terminated on September 26, 2012 and three suppliers were contracted to remedy the situation
He said a number of builders had deserted sites, citing delays in delivery of materials and low pay and this also impacted negatively on the progress, as other builders were to be engaged. He further said some sites were on the outskirts of the village where there was no water connection and this had affected projects.
Mr Manewe noted that 54 projects from the 2012/13 financial year spilled over to the 2013/14 programmes, adding that 25 of them were captured in the 2013/14 project memorandum, which had 149 projects.
He said 29 projects were not catered for in the 2013/14 programme, presumably to be done side by side with the 2013/14 projects using leftover materials from the previous programme. The drought coordinator also encouraged the councillors to work hard as a team and urged them to push forward projects that did not need material power.
He said the accountability of the programme should lie with the council secretary as the custodian of the resources deployed for the daily execution of the programme. ENDS
