Few South East District youth apply for funding
06 Jun 2013
Minister of Youth Sport and culture, Mr Shaw Kgathi has encouraged the youth in the South East District to make use of youth empowerment programmes.
Addressing a kgotla meeting on Tuesday, the minister said he was disappointed by the low figures of youth who had applied for funding under the Youth Development Fund (YDF) in the area.
He said government had reserved P120 million for YDF, with each constituency allocated P2 million. Minister Kgathi explained that youth empowerment schemes were aimed at curbing the challenges faced by young people.
Furthermore, he said the youth could make a living out of their talent giving examples of the likes of Amantle Montsho, Nigel Amos, Dipsy Selolwane and Isaac Makwala. He encouraged parents, teachers and pastors to work hand in hand with the government to mould the youth.
Among the people who accompanied the minister during the tour included Mochudi Centre Chiefs and former Zebras player, Pontsho Moloi and Mafia Soul founder, Molefi Nkwete. The two gave a motivational talk to inspire youth to take advantage of the government development programs.
Moloi encouraged the youth to be determined and persevere to create employment for themselves regardless of their challenges while Nkwete said nothing came easy in life saying he started his business during his tertiary studies against all odds. ENDS
