The Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo, says the motive behind Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) is to resuscitate the economy and promote job creation.

Minister Mabeo said this when addressing a kgotla meeting in Manyana on Tuesday 26.

He applauded the government for the programme noting that engaging citizen owned companies retained money in the country unlike exporting money through awarding tenders to foreign owned companies.

He said government was tasked to drive the economic development framework to uplift the livelihoods of Batswana.

He stated that contractors were engaged in ESP projects, adding that Batswana were given first priority for employment in various projects.

He told residents that Manyana/Moshupa road would be tarred through ESP while the road from Mmankgodi junction to Manyana would be resurfaced.

He said Manyana Primary School and Moshupa Secondary School would be connected with internet services.

Mr Mabeo promised to connect Manyana kgotla with telephone and internet services. 

He showered Manyana residents with praises for appreciating government’s efforts in developing the country and changing the lives of Batswana to the better and new developments that the government is willing to undertake.

He said Manyana was a blessed village because of its population and proximity to Gaborone.

 He said construction of roads would reduce traffic congestion.

He said though they appreciated government’s efforts in developing their village, some developments were lagging behind.

They said internal roads in Manyana needed to be improved. They said some roads needed to be upgraded to guide tourists in the village.

However, Bikwe settlement residents wanted their road to be graded regularly.

 They also requested a primary school in their area because their children travelled long distance to Manyana.

Residents were equally concerned of illegal sand mining in their area noting it has to be curbed at all costs.ENDS
