27 Apr 2016
Residents of Kumakwane have welcomed proposed development projects under the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP).
They expressed their gratitude during a kgotla meeting addressed by the area MP, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo on Tuesday 26.
The projects would include the crafting of A10 road from Mogoditshane to Mmankgodi junction into a dual carriage road, construction of three classrooms and four staff houses under the Ministry of Education and Skills Development as well as one staff house under the Ministry of Health.
Mr Mabeo, also Minister of Transport and Communications, said construction of the projects would create employment opportunities and boast the country’s economy.
He stated that conversion of A10 road into a dual carriageway would reduce high number of accidents in the village.
He added that the road would also reduce traffic congestion along the road.
Mr Mabeo said government had realised that the economy was not growing as envisaged hence ESP was crafted to boost the country`s economy.
Therefore, he encouraged the residents to take advantage of the programme.
The minister also said schools would have internet.
Kgosi Opelo Seboni thanked the minister for the visit and for bringing good news that would change the village.
Nonetheless, he pleaded that those who would be tasked to do propjet designs in the village should consult with villagers.
Furthermore, Kgosi Seboni requested for more ESP projects, adding that storm water drainage was still a challenge.
For her part, Councillor Winnie Cassim encouraged the residents to take advantage of ESP by seeking employment and submitting tenders where possible.
She also said it was important that residents were aware of changes that were to take place in the village. ENDS
