The Kgatleng District Council has decided to develop another cell next to the current operational site at Pilane Landfill.

When delivering his address to mark the commencement of the Kgatleng District Council session on Monday, council chairperson, Mr Mpho Morolong told councillors that they were faced with challenges of the Pilane Landfill which was full and an eyesore to motorists on the A1 road.

He said they were forced to consider other alternatives as a way of addressing the challenge.

Mr Morolong said it was imperative to note that the project did not receive any funding, and that they were considering the possibility of utilising some savings from their recurrent budget.

“This therefore calls for our concerted efforts to ascertain that we construct the cell despite the financial challenges.”

He said they have sought advice from the Department of Environmental Affairs pertaining to an environmental impact assessment. Ends
