Backlog eradication projects progress well

16 Dec 2015

Kgatleng District Council chairperson, Mr Mpho Morolong, says phase one of primary schools backlog eradication projects is progressing well.

Addressing a full council session recently, Mr Morolong said backlog projects for Ntshinoge and Oodi were still under construction.

He said phase two for construction of seven classrooms, one LA2 house and one toilet at Ramogotsi Primary School had commenced and was expected to be completed around September 2016.

Mr Morolong  noted that construction of five destitute houses, each at Dikgonnye and Bokaa, three at Boseja and two RADP houses at Kgomodiatshaba are under construction, adding  that handing over will be at the end of December.

Moreover, Cllr Morolong said tenders for maintenance of six primary schools were at adjudication stage noting that those primary schools were Lady Mitchinson, Raditladi, Isang, Rankoa and Oodi.

He said, “tender documents for the next financial year for maintenance projects covering Modipane, Boiteko, Seingwaeng, Rasesa and Dikwididi primary schools are being finalised and implementation is scheduled to commence in April 2016.”

Maintenance of staff houses and other facilities still faced financial constraints; however he said this quarter they have managed to complete maintenance of ten staff houses in Mochudi while maintenance of two staff houses at Artesia was on-going.

Regarding electricity, Cllr Morolong noted that general electrical maintenance of targeted primary schools was being undertaken and identified schools are Letsebe, Seingwaeng, Ramogotsi and Mmusi primary.

He said due to power cuts experienced by the district and the country at large, council decided to procure and install a 200KVA back-up diesel generator.

The back-up diesel generator had been delivered to site and upon completion of the reticulation works, it would become operational, thereby giving clients uninterrupted service.

The chairperson said installation of five tower lights in Mochudi commenced on November 23 with the planned completion date being late January 2016. “Installation of the lights will go a long way in improving illumination as well as assisting in crime reduction,” he said. Ends
