Preparations for the April 26 ground breaking ceremony of the North South Carrier II (NSC2) water project are on track.

According to Palapye Administration Authority (PAA) district officer, Ms Segametsi Koontse, construction was expected to take 24 months with another 24 months as the defects notification period.

Ms Koontse also indicated that the project was significant to the Palapye community because it would help in water reticulation in the area. She noted that the project would create jobs for Batswana, adding that it had also been given a green light by dikgosi during a consultative meeting.

The project, which would entail construction of a 75km pipeline from Moralane to Palapye and it would be installed parallel and about 15m from the phase one pipeline.

The NSC2, whose purpose was to make reliable surface water supplies to the country’s eastern corridor, was urgently required to prevent national development constraints.

Its major components included extension of the Moralane pressure tank, upgrading of Moralane pumping station, construction of a raw water storage reservoir in Palapye and installation of fibre optic cables from Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) command centre in Selebi Phikwe to a command centre in Mmamashia.

The project would involve ferrying water through pipelines from Dikgatlhong Dam to Palapye. ENDS
