Councillors embrace service hall idea

02 Jul 2015

The Kweneng District Council has finally embraced the establishment of a service hall valued at P9 million as “a brilliant initiative that will take the district to greater heights.”

The adoption of the concept followed a detailed report on how the P9 million was reached by the district council’s chief executive Mr Wazha Tema to the just ended two week full council meeting.

The presentation was made to clear councillors’ suspicions to the effect that the cost of the project was unbearable and that maladministration could have been the cause.

The project, as the council secretary put it, was located at Mafenyatlala Mall because of the modern technology incorporated and that the broadband it needed was available only at the mall.

The aim of the project he said was to create a One Service Stop Centre (OSS)in Molepolole envisaged as a pilot project and a blue print of the future OSS to be set as the council replicates and expand the services to other districts.

Mr Tema cited a number of forums where proper consultation processes were made with relevant committees such as the Finance and the executive committees, including the dates and venues.

The centre as Mr Tema further stated would facilitate a new approach to service delivery with a call centre, service cubicles, data kiosks, coffee shop, high Internet connectivity and a resource business centre, all under one roof.

It would as well provide a centralised management of customer service and a seamless, cutting-edge technology driven delivery to all government customers, he said.

“The concept fits well with local government and rural development ministry’s e-gov agenda towards a seamless government, an initiative that is inclined towards the end goal of excellence in service delivery.”

He added that it was then that the ministry provided overall strategic guidance and leadership and facilitated the sourcing of funds to set up and run the centre.

Mr Tema further said they were still waiting for local government’s permanent secretary to come up with the modalities of how central government departments would reimburse KDC the amount of money injected in the project including monthly rentals.

Following Mr Tema’s briefing, kweneng district councillors, among them cllr Duke Mafoko, endorsed the project as a ‘brilliant’ initiative commending the council secretary for his leadership that has made Kweneng District council a shining example.

Delayed communication as nominated cllr Tshenolo Leshomo stated fueled suspicions because some committees such as the monitoring committee were not taken aboard. Cllr Arafat Khan and Susan Kenosi also okayed the initiative. ENDS
