The Kgatleng District Council has managed to complete 142 projects of the 146 planned for the 2014/15 financial year.
Briefing a full council session on June 22, council chairperson, Mr Mpho Morolong said the projects included, 25 tribal administration projects noting that the completed projects had been handed over to their respective departments.
He said the programme achieved its goal in the district with the community immensely benefiting from a cumulative employment of 17 544.
Cllr Morolong said the district was implementing 111 projects with two spill overs noting that programme implementation began with 71 labour intensive works while 40 technical projects which include fencing, maintenance, paving and construction are expected to begin on the 1st of July.
He lamented that the spills over projects are scheduled to be completed by the end of June this year adding that the council has requested the ministry to release over P9.3 of the P15.6 million allocated to the district.
Cllr Morolong also said the council has taken a decision to engage the post office to pay Ipelegeng workers who are currently being transported to Mochudi for payments.
He noted that the decision was arrived at in order to reduce the risk of transporting beneficiaries over long distances in rough terrain and in unconducive transport.
He said negotiations with the Botswana Post were still ongoing and a service contract was expected to be signed before the end of this month.
In a different note, the council chairperson said the physical planning committee has approved the development of a shopping centre by private developers at Pilane at the south eastern quadrant of the Pilane-Rasesa traffic lights adding that construction has started.
“This, we hope will bring employment to the residents of our district,” he said. ENDS
