10 Jun 2015

Mr Lentswe Mosanako is the new Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) southern region chairman.

The former Moshupa Sub-district Council chairman was elected during the region’s elective congress in Jwaneng on June 6. Mr Mosanako garnered 108 votes against Messrs Julius Kamodi and Pena Moahi who got 93 and one votes respectively.

Former councillor for Ranaka, Mr Andrew Mopipi was elected deputy chairman after trouncing Mr Sehudi Tsimakoko by 133 votes to 46. In the race for the regional secretary, Ms Olga Ditsie beat three others, among them, former regional secretary, Mr Fankie Motsaaathebe.

Ms Ditsie will be deputised by Ms Goemeone Lekaukau while Mr Kagiso Mosarwana, a former councillor, beat Mr Pathan Khan to be crowned the regional treasurer. Mr Mosarwana will be deputised by Mr Matthews Okgopoleng who beat two other contestants to emerge deputy treasurer.

Former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Peter Siele, who spoke on behalf of former pPresident, Sir Ketumile Masire said the meeting was “among others a congratulatory one for somebody from the region being the Vice President of the country as well as preparatory meeting for presenting him as the region’s candidate for the chairmanship of the party at Mmadinare.”

Mr Siele said Sir Ketumile Masire was hopeful that such wishes “find Grace in the eyes of the Lord.”

The former minister who also spoke on his own behalf and indeed as a party elder said it was incumbent upon democrats to steer the BDP forward especially that it still had what it takes to continue to lead Botswana to even greater heights.

Jwaneng/Mabutsane branch chairperson, Mr Ditiro Rantalajwe had earlier in his welcome remarks expressed displeasure at the party’s poor showing during past general elections; something he said was the reason the constituency continued to elude his party.bopa
