Good Hope Sub-district Council chairperson, Ms Mmaobene Molefe, has lauded the Ipelegeng programme for closing public facilities maintenance deficit.

Officially opening the sub-council sitting on May 25, Ms Molefe said projects carried out under the programme included maintenance of government facilities, minor construction works, de-bushing and spot improvement of roads.

The programme, she said serves as a source of short term employment and relief to beneficiaries while at the same time it provides essential developments in the Sub District. Ms Molefe noted that they had requested P17 million to implement 123 Ipelegeng projects in the Good Hope Sub-district.

Furthermore, she said out of 146 projects implemented in the year 2014/15, only 130 had been completed adding that the remaining construction works would be completed in the first quarter of this financial year.

On poverty eradication programme, only 49 projects were operational while 33 are not operational due to lack of commitment from beneficiaries. However, she said, 14 projects would soon be operational as the beneficiaries have undergone training.

Ms Molefe implored all relevant stakeholders to own the programmes and utilise them to realise the fruitful benefits of those programmes. ENDS
