Significant progress has been achieved in the servicing of land at Extension II in Palapye.

The project, which will be completed by April 2016, entails construction of permanent office block, 69 kilometres of roads and storm water drainage, 55 kilometres of water reticulation, 57 kilometres of sewer reticulation and 57 kilometres of telecommunication civil works and offsite works which include a sewer pipeline outfall, pump station, access road and junction into A1 road.

The site to be developed under this project is an area measuring 350 hectares where 3159 plots will be serviced.

Before the project took off, Palapye sub-landboard had mistakenly allocated 462 plots in this area but it clarified that no development of the plots was permitted whilst the project was ongoing as such development of plots will be carried out after the project had been handed over.

Briefing stakeholders on the project progress on April 10, one of the contractors Mr Solomon Chitimira said the project was progressing well even though there were some delays caused by heavy rains and closure by suppliers in January.

Regarding construction of access roads, he said progress was being made more so that they were expecting to tar block A of extension 11 by the end of April. Mr Chitimira also said there will be an additional extension of a five kilometres road that will join the main extension 11 road from where the main project was earmarked to Kgolagano College.

Stakeholders were also told about the lift sewerage station that will be collecting sewerage from extension II to the main sewerage ponds. However it has turned out that there were some hiccups experienced as the main sewerage carrying capacity was not big enough to cater for the growing Palapye.

The meeting also learnt  that most of the materials used in the project were purchased locally, while most of subcontractors are citizens. Appreciating the report ward councillor Mr Kabelo Mphoentle said this was a great achievement to Palapye residents and a major development to his ward.

He said the project had created employment for Batswana especially Palapye residents.He appealed to the companies involved to always look back and leave something that they will be remembered with by residents after completion of the project.  Ends
