Francistown City Council (FCC) has come up with Vision 2022 aimed at transforming the city to attract developments that would make the landscape more attractive.

In an interview recently, FCC senior public relations officer Mr Joseph Wasubera said the project of paving the city was aimed at bettering the environment and living conditions of citizens through job creation .

Mr Wasubera further said they would continue paving with kerbstones in and around the Central Business District (CBD), including the bus rank. He added that last month they had a meeting with the business community to update them on how far they had gone with their paving.

Mr Wasubera said before they started the project, they benchmarked in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe where their spaces for street vendors was two by two metres but decided to make it a bit wider here by a two by five metres for each vendor looking at the sizes of the umbrellas.

In addition, he said the intention was to complete the project on time, noting that the project was behind schedule due to weather conditions. P1.5 million was budgeted for the project.
Mr Wasubera said after the job was completed, they were going to set some cleaning standards.

He said they would make sure that paving of the city created an environment that was conducive for investment.Mr Wasubera said they would try to eliminate any red tape that may scare investors to make the city vibrant by 2022.

He said the city council has land that investors could use to set up their businesses and that the geographical positioning of the city gave it a comparative advantage over other places.
