08 Feb 2015

The Minister of Infrastructure, Science and Technology, Mr Nonofo Molefhi has handed over the site to a contractor of the 65 staff houses as part of the project for the new primary hospital in Shakawe.

When handing over the first phase of the project which amounts P62 million, the minister said phase two of the project will be a 70 bed fully-fledged primary hospital which will cater for the Okavango district.

He further advised the contractors and his assembled team, the project engineer, architects to work diligently and focus on the work ahead of them. ‘’We do not expect you to default, as I hand over to you, your duty is to focus on what is ahead of you and the eighth officer of the team is the government employee,’’ he said.

He pleaded with the contractor of Hitecon (PTY) LTD’s Mr Che Guang Yong to work hand in hand with the permanent secretary and make sure that he reports any problems that may delay the project.

‘’Move with speed to seek intervention, identify equipment skills, appropriate materials needed, this should be a project of significance and I hope you will protect your reputation,’’he said

He also reminded them of the poor workmanship of Shakawe Senior secondary school and said that they should avoid such a situation.

The minister urged them to sleep on site and focus on the project and highlighted that when they are working on such a project, no luxury accommodation is needed as they cannot commute every day.

On another note, he cautioned the village authority to make sure that no anti-social behaviour derails the project.

He said that equipment vandalism will not be tolerated, therefore the contractor should make sure to secure the site’s parameters. The expected completion date for the project is 1st March 2016. ENDS
