Former freelancer authors Inside New York

07 Dec 2014

Born and raised in the dusty streets of Monarch in Francistown, 24 year-old Lucky Doctor has gone further in pursuit of becoming a prolific writer.

His thinking outside the box attitude has paid dividends and he is making an impact in the global scene.

A zest for life and quick intellect urged Doctor to intertwine talent with academics and start to write articles in the turn of the 21st century, with some published in local newspapers such as Mmegi’s “My news” section, The Echo’s “Student news” and the DailyNews as a freelance reporter.

“It was at the DailyNews where my writing skills flourished,” said Doctor in an interview. His endeavour eventually paid off as he has published a fictional short novel titled Inside New York.

The book, which took two years to finish was self-published by Create Space and it is about a group of terrorists calling themselves the Yemen Shaheeds who make it to New York from Pakistan undetected by the US Intelligence. While Inside New York, they carry out terror acts in revenge of continued US drone strikes in the Middle East.

It might seem absurd for a Motswana to write about USA without having been there, but as a talented, innovative and prolific writer, Doctor stated that he dedicated 60 per cent of his time during his writing on research about New York City and a vast amount of reading on Air Traffic Control.

He said this made him to come up with lead characters such as Todd Teddy, an FBI Special Agent who is also head of the Critical Incidence Response Team and chief hostage negotiator, who leads the elite hostage team, that is Snipers and SWAT to a hostage situation on the 85th street, where a hijacked plane was heading.

Moreover, the fictional novel, which is entangled and stuffed with intelligence gone wrong, shoot-outs, hair raising escapes and explosions, was formerly written to be a movie script to be sold to major Hollywood studio, but he then converted it to a book.

Furthermore, in this imaginative and comprehensible novel, an interesting chapter is where the Yemen Shaheeds terrorist hijacks a private G550 Jet belonging to the Mayor of New York, Mr Gabriel Fender and crushing it on the heart of New York, which events were inspired by the September 11 attacks on US soil.

Mr Doctor stressed that he self-published his novel because local publishers snub young and upcoming writers.

He also noted that his aspiration is to see his book distributed within Botswana and internationally, hence urging private companies, the US embassy and the Ministry of Youth Sport and Culture to assist him on his endeavor.

The young novelist stated that he would like to see his book adopted for a motion picture, either locally or internationally.

He intends to avail his book online on websites such as Amazon.com where people can place orders and an ‘Inside New York’ Facebook fan page is on the pipeline where people can read more about the fictional novel. ENDS
