Palapye working on NDP 11 DDP 8

06 Nov 2014

An official at the Palapye Administrative Authority, Mr Fernando Gabaitaole has called on the community to collaborate with stakeholders from both local and central government to come up with a comprehensive development plan for Palapye and surrounding villages.

Speaking at the a consultative meeting with the community in Palapye recently to make plans for the coming National Development Plan 11 (NDP11) and District Development Plan eight (DDP8) , Mr Gabaitaole said the two plans will take effect in 2016 after the current NDP10 and DDP7 come to an end.

Village Development Committees and area councilors made some submissions during the NDP11/DDP8 consultative meeting.

Mr Gabaitaole informed the community that some projects in NDP10/DDP7 were not carried out due to shortage of funds caused by the global economic recession which hit the country’s economy in 2008.

He said therefore some new projects were deferred whilst the government grappled with completing existing projects. He said in Palapye projects such as the construction of the new police station and the ongoing Palapye bus rank were implemented whilst the upgrading of Palapye hospital was deferred.

Mr Gabaitaole said the plans were formulated to address among others the problem of shortage of serviced land, upgrading, misinterpretation of policies and programmes, shortage of infrastructure and escalation of crime.

Village Development Committees made submissions which will be discussed further at the Sub district development committee and Palapye Sub council meetings. ENDS
