Khama certain of victory

09 Oct 2014

Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) president, Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama says his party will emerge victorious come October 24 general elections.

Lt Gen. Khama said this during a BDP star rally in the Gabane- Mmankgodi constituency in Mmankgodi on October 9.

He said he was convinced that the ruling party would win with a wider margin than it did in the 2009 general elections because his party had welcomed new members from opposition parties across constituencies more than ever before.

However, he said BDP had more members than the opposition; thus the opposition could only attain power if BDP members voted for them. The BDP leader implored followers to vote wisely by giving their party council and parliamentary candidates their votes in large numbers as failure to do so could also aid the opposition.

The party leader further said democrats in the Gabane-Mmankgodi constituency should ensure that the party won all of the contested council seats and parliamentary seat, adding that the BDP aims to take the opposition out of the game completely during the elections.

Also the President encouraged the democrats to keep their voter registration and Omang cards safely for the October 24 general elections, adding that government was aware of the needs of the people of Gabane-Mmankgodi constituency such as roads and a clinic.

He said government would construct a clinic in Mmankgodi and that Gabane would be the first village he will address a kgotla meeting in after the general elections. Another speaker, Mr Mmolotsi Raletobana said there was nothing that the opposition party candidates could offer the people of Gabane-Mmankgodi constituency.

He added that the country’s development plans were contained in district and national development plans; hence no opposition member would influence any major development as they promise.

The area parliamentary candidate Mr Lesedi Mmusi said BDP was still alive and strong, contrary to opposition parties’ claims that it was dying.

He encouraged fellow democrats against voting for the opposition as that could reduce the numbers of the ruling party members in parliament and council. Ends
