The President, Lt. Gen Seretse Khama Ian Khama says Batswana will not make a mistake of voting opposition parties into power.

Speaking at a star rally at Maboane in the Takatokwane constituency on October 7, President Khama said the fact that they welcomed new members from opposition parties across the country, was a sign that Batswana realised that BDP was the only party fit to rule the country.

He cited the Jwaneng-Mabutsane constituency, where he said they welcomed 2 000 members from the Botswana National Front last month. 

President Khama said government found it better to focus on basic needs such as the elimination of abject poverty with the little at hand and shelve some developments projects until the economy recovers from meltdown. 

President Khama assured the gathering that in three years’ time, no Motswana would be living under abject poverty. President Khama said Letlhakeng clinic would soon be improved to make it a bigger clinic.

He said there were also plans to turn the Takatokwane clinic in to a 24-hour operational facility, but said such plans were hampered by lack of accommodation for staff members. He said work was underway to turn Mahupu junior school in Takatokwane into a unified secondary school.

On other issues, President Khama said contrary to what the opposition believed, Ipelegeng programme had proved to be relevant as all the 67 000 slots were occupied. He said some opposition MPs advocated in secrecy for the numbers to be increased.

He cautioned the gathering to be cautious of opposition promises, saying they promised things that even richer nations such as the US could not afford.

The BDP national campaign manager, Mr Alec Seametso said the opposition did not want to see the lives of Batswana improving as this would reflect the success of the ruling party.

He said that was why the opposition always criticised programmes tailored by BDP such as poverty eradication because BDP success will leave them with nothing to talk about. Ends
