25 Sep 2014
Tender for the repair of the overhead bridge along the Nelson Mandela Highway near metro Wholesalers is being evaluated and will be awarded by September 26.
In an interview, Gaborone City Council’s principal roads engineer, Mr Khumo Manyathelo said the construction of the overhead bridge will commence at the beginning of next month and is expected to last three months.
Mr Manyathelo said the overhead bridge, which collapsed in April after being hit by excavator hire truck, connected locations of Extension 26 and Tshimotharo in Broadhurst .
He said the council will be monitoring the contractor who will win the tender so that they comply with the set standards, while the bill would be the responsibility of the excavator hire company. However, Mr Manyathelo could not disclose the amount because the tender was not yet awarded.
He appealed to residents of the above locations and motorists to give the contractor maximum cooperation during the construction to enable them to complete the project on time. ENDS
