Acting Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi has urged Old Naledi residents to vote for the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Gaborone South parliamentary prospective candidate, Mr Kagiso Molatlhegi and six councillors in the October 24 general elections.
Mr Masisi, who was launching Mr Molatlhegi and prospective councillors in Old Naledi Saturday, said by voting BDP, they would be moving Botswana forward, as well as doing themselves good as they would continue to live in peace.
Mr Masisi said as the nation awaited the election day, residents should in the meantime introspect and look back at the developments that had taken place in Old Naledi in the last five years and not risk throwing their vote to the opposition parties.
He said developments that had taken place in Old Naledi were made possible through the leadership of a party that valued democracy, good governance and had the nation’s interest at heart.
Mr Masisi said the opposition should not be given a chance completely in the coming elections as they had proven incapable because they could not even manage themselves. BDP disciplinary chairperson, Ms Ponatshego Tshiping said the legacy left behind by the BDP’s former three presidents should continue to live on.
She said having ruled Botswana thus far, since 1966, the nation should continue to trust BDP and rally behind it.
She described Mr Molatlhegi as a humble, caring leader who demonstrated his abilities in the past five years, as witnessed by the developments brought in Old Naledi.
“Old Naledi residents are the beneficiaries of the introduced alternative packages under the poverty eradication programme because the backyard gardening was not feasible because of lack of space in their yards,” she said.
Gaborone regional chairperson, Mr Bontsi Monare called on voters, especially the youth, to vote in large numbers in order for BDP to continue its programmes geared towards improving the lives of young people.
He said Botswana youth were the beneficiaries of the best education system envied by other countries in the continent as well as programmes such as the Youth Development Fund that uplift lives of youth.
Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, also Molepolole North parliamentary prospective candidate, Mr Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri said Gaborone South had since developed during the tenure of Mr Molatlhegi, who always advocated for developments in the constituency.
He said because of Mr Molatlhegi, the Old Naledi Clinic had been considered to start operating 24/7, the beginning of October, thereby bringing services closer to the people and improving congestion at other clinics in the city.
He said while in Parliament, Mr Molatlhegi had always argued for improved public health in Old Naledi and entire Gaborone, hence the health system in the city would continue to improve.
Again, he said the University of Botswana hospital would be turned in to a referral facility, while Princess Marina would change to a district hospital.
Molepolole South parliamentary prospective candidate, Mr Daniel Kwelagobe said democracy and good governance prevailed under the leadership of BDP, adding that their votes would ensure that the spirit lived on.
The area parliamentary prospective candidate, Mr Molatlhegi vowed to continue consulting residents of Gaborone South on priority projects they wanted in their respective wards.
He also said if voted, he would argue for developments at Bontleng, White City and Babusi wards as some the oldest in the city, but still under developed.
Mr Molatlhegi said he was hopeful that the oldest wards and the newly introduced Selemela Ward under Gaborone South would be planned for more developments under the eleventh National Development Plan (NDP 11). ENDS
