Kgalagadi under-developed - Saleshando
18 Sep 2014
The leader of Botswana Congress Party (BCP), Mr Dumelang Saleshando says Kgalagadi District, especially in the south, has little developments.
He said this in Tsabong, on September 16, when addressing a BCP rally to urge electorates of Kgalagadi South to vote for Mr Richard White who is a prospective parliamentary candidate for the area.
Mr Saleshando said when Botswana gained Independence, most people thought that will bring them happiness, better health facilities and education but tit had not happened under the BDP government hence the need for electorates to vote for his party.
He said if given a chance, his party will make sure that they improve the education sector by having two ministries; lower and higher education ministries to make sure that students do well, adding that they will make sure that they build pre-primary schools to groom youth that will be able to compete internationally and build the country.
The BCP leader went on to say that his party will repeall the minimum wage scale and introduce the living wage like in other countries and also make sure that the Ministry of labour stands alone to be able to adequately address issues of workers.
Mr Saleshando revealed that his party is the only one which has a shadow cabinet and that shows that it is ready to lead when given a chance. Mr White reiterated that Kgalagadi South had immense problems that included, amongst others, poor education, rife corruption especially on land issues and poor health facilities.
He said to address the issue of poor education, his party will make sure that they reduce the student-teacher ratio which is the main factor that contributes to low pass rates. Mr White said the current education system under the ruling party has failed Batswana and in the process impoverished them.
He said the reason why there is high unemployment is because graduates do not meet the industry require hence the reluctance of employers to hire them.
On corruption and land issues he pointed out that he will make sure that the constituents get their communal land back which is allocated to foreigners and the elite from the ruling party to run game farms while the ordinary Motswana don’t have plots for residence and farming which is the lifeblood of the district.
