Tsabong JSS to be a unified school
17 Sep 2014
Tsabong Junior Secondary School will be upgraded to be a unified secondary school.
Tsabong Sub-district council chairman, Mr Sam Justice Brooks, said this when giving introductory re-marks during the second and last session of the sub-council on September 16.
Mr Brooks said the tender for upgrading the junior school had been awarded to Zhong Ghan construction company at a tender price of P398 014 711.68 and the construction was on-going. He said the project was expected to take 24 months.
The sub-council chairman said the project would assist children by reducing the distance that they used to travel to Macha senior school.
He went on to point out that in an endeavour to provide children with basic education, the district have encountered some challenges among them shortage of teachers as some teachers still refuse to be transferred to the sub district and deteriorating school results.
The chairman said despite all the challenges they have kept their focus and proved their commitment of taking services to the communities they serve by constructing two-teacher school at McCarthy’s Rust in 2010.
“These helped in providing education for all children despite their geographical location and reducing the school drop-outs especially for children from McCarthy’s Rust who were doing standard 1 and 2 in Tsabong primary schools” he said.
Mr Brooks also said during this period of uncertainty and high rate of unemployment students should be encouraged to recognize that sport can be used as a source of living instead of just entertainment.
He revealed that children from the sub district have shown that they have potential to make a living out of such extra curriculum activities because four were selected to represent Botswana in international competitions (COSASA) which were held in Zambia recently.
He appealed to educators to take the issue of extra curriculum development as a way to go in combating unemployment.
For their part councilors applauded the achievement of lobbying the government to build a unified school in the district but lamented that it is unfortunate that some civil servants do not want to work in the area even though now most of the services including shops are available. Ends
