Gudu takes campaign trail to Gungwe

17 Sep 2014

Residents of Gungwe have been urged to vote wisely in the coming general elections.

Speaking during a political rally on September 13, Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC)’s Tati West parliamentary candidate, Mr Richard Gudu, said it was now time for Gungwe as well as the rest of the constituency’s residents to vote differently as their loyalty to the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) had not paid off over the past years.

He thus implored the electorate to vote him into office; promising that he would ensure that the constituency enjoyed unparalleled delivery of services.

On another matter, the parliamentary aspirant decried the quality of the country’s education saying it did not make Batswana employable and competitive in the job market. He said if voted into power, the UDC would work relentlessly to change the status quo.

Mr Gudu also complained about what he termed the failure by government to create jobs for Batswana. What was more saddening, he said, was the fact that citizens remained out of work despite the fact that the country was doing well economically.

He said with the huge mineral deposits Botswana was endowed with, it was disheartening that government could not come up with ways to create sustainable jobs for citizens. For his part, Mosojane ward council candidate, Mr Mbaakanyi Smart, also called on Gungwe residents to help Mr Gudu win the constituency.

He said Mr Gudu was the right person to draw developments to the area; hence the need for voters to give him an opportunity to prove himself. On a different issue, Mr Smart complained about the high fees required for private water connections.

He said the P1 500 connection fee charged by Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) was out of reach for many Batswana, many of whom still wallowed in poverty. Another speaker, Mr Rabson Langwane similarly called for Tati West residents to vote for Mr Gudu.

He said having been staying in the constituency, Mr Gudu was well conversant with issues affecting the constituency’s residents. ENDS
