Many believe in BDP - Khama

Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) is going strong as evidenced by the increasing support from the elderly and the youth, says President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama.


Speaking at a rally in Mookane on September 13, Lt Gen. Khama stated that BDP had welcomed quite a number of new members from opposition parties.


Therefore, he said BDP would win the general elections as people kept on joining BDP.
 Regarding the independent candidates (mekoko), President Khama described them as power hungry individuals who did not accept defeat.


Concerning the Mahalapye West BDP parliamentary candidate, President Khama stated that Ms Botlogile Tshireletso was an engaging woman who had been doing a good job in her constituency and in the country at large.


He also hailed Ms Pinkie Setalekgosi a villager for the good contribution she made in Mookane.
 President Khama commended Ms Setalekgosi for painting the primary school, providing computers to the primary school, handing chairs to the village kgotla including building a house for a destitute.


With regards to the Mookane-A1 road, President Khama said it delayed due to economic recession, but promised that as soon as the economy recovers, the road would be tarred.

Gen. Khama said government has introduced programmes aimed at improving the lives of Batswana.
Programmes such as Ipelegeng, he said offers relief to thousands while  ISPAAD to assist Batswana into producing agricultural food for themselves.


Meanwhile President Khama also said independent candidates had until September 25 to rejoin the BDP and failure to meet the deadline, the candidates would not be welcome to the party. 


For her part, Ms Tshireletso informed the President that indeed she would be in parliament for Mahalapye East come October 25014.


Ms Tshireletso said she is going to continue the good work for her country and constituents.
 The rally was attended by the Assistant Minister of Agriculture Oreeditse Molebatsi, Prince Maele Lerala candidate for Maunatlala ward and Minister of Tourism Tshekedi Khama. Ends
