Khama advises residents to retain BDP

14 Sep 2014

President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama has urged residents of Sefhare/Ramokgonami constituency to put their trust in the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

Addressing a rally at Tumasera/Ramokgonami General Khama said the future of the constituency was in the hands of the BDP as such democrats should ensure that the party retained the constituency in the coming 2014 general elections billed for October 24th.

He said he was aware that residents of that constituency wanted infrastructural developments such as roads and others; as such the BDP government will take care of those when the economy improves.

He said when the country gained independence it was underdeveloped but the BDP government made concerted efforts to develop this country.

He said more is still to come, adding “this is just a warm up.”

He said developments were welcome but the most important aspect that his party was tackling now was to improve the livelihoods of Batswana, adding that there was no point in having tarred roads when the people did not have jobs, clothes and food.

He said therefore the future of that constituency was upon the BDP through its prospective Parliamentary candidate for Sefhare/Ramokgonami Ms Dorcas Makgato-Malesu.

He described her as a hard worker who served in the private sector prior to joining government.

He said Ms Makgato-Malesu contributed immensely in improving the operations of CEDA and LEA to benefit Batswana by creating employment and growing the economy.

He also said the Economic Diversification Drive introduced by Ms Makgato-Malesu also yielded positive results.

“We are lucky to have this woman, she is a very good lady and no parliamentary candidate in this constituency compares to her,” he said.
President Khama who is also the BDP leader said opposition parties could only win this constituency if democrats make the mistake of voting opposition parties.

He said the BDP won Tumasera/Seleka ward in 2009 and lost it to BCP during bye elections following the demise of the late former councilor Mr Letsholo Same.

He said the democrats were the ones who gave BCP the ward and pleaded with the electorates not repeat the mistake.

He said opposition parties were not trust worthy, incapable and lacked the capacity to lead this country as such should not be voted for.

He also warned Batswapong to guard against tribalism saying that it created tension and divided the nation.

President Khama also thanked former MP for Tswapong South Mr Oreeditse Molebatsi for his loyalty to the party despite having lost in the BDP primary elections.

He said Mr Molebatsi was a hard worker, having served the constituency for the past 10 years.

For his part Mr Molebatsi said government through ISPAAD had increased food production.

He also stated that he accepted defeat during the BDP primary elections hence there was no tension between him and Ms Makgato-Malesu as he supported her.

Ms Makgato-Malesu on the other hand vowed to take out the “non-existent” opposition out of the game.

She urged the constituents to vote for her basing on her capability, adding that she pledged to serve the constituency with humility, respect and diligence.

She said she and fellow democrats in constituency  were working together to win the elections under the BDP ticket. ENDS
