Former Letlhakeng MP, Mr Boometswe Mokgothu has appealed to Ditshegwane/Maboane residents to vote for the Botswana Democratic Patry (BDP) prospective council candidate for their ward, Mr Tshoganetso Leuwe in the upcoming general elections.
Mr Mokgothu, who is also former minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, said at the launch of Mr Leuwe over the weekend that when he was still an MP, the roads were poor but they had since been tarred, which showed that BDP cared about Batswana.
He told democrats that development was a process; as such voters should see the difference between the ruling party and opposition parties that claimed they could develop everything at a go without prioritising according to pressing needs.
He also said it was through the BDP government that there were developments like schools, improved road networks and programs and initiatives that uplift the lives of Batswana like poverty eradication schemes which opposition members dismiss as useless.
Another Speaker, a member of BDP’s National Executive Committee, Mr Slumber Mokgosi said the BDP led government was the envy of other countries in Africa in as far as good governance and the respect for democratic principles are concerned, among other positives.
“Botswana was poor at independence but today the country boasts of being clad in a middle income status,” said Mr Mokgosi.
For his part, Khudumelapye Councillor Justice Mokoto praised Ditshegwane/Maboane council candidate Mr Leuwe, who is currently the Letlhakeng Sub District council chairperson, as a hardworking democrat.
Mr Mokoto said Mr Leuwe was worthy of a vote because he was nominated a concillor and in turn voted by fellow councilors to become their leader in the Letlhakeng Sub-district council since 2009 till now.
He said they were lucky to have Mr Leuwe as their Sub Council chairperson as he came with vast experience of leadership which helped the Sub Council in many fields of developments.
Botswana Democratic Party’s Takatokwane Parliamentary candidate Mr Ngaka Ngaka urged those who lost in the primary elections to support winners.
He urged the residents to vote for Mr Leuwe and himself as their party representatives to ensure that they continued as their conduit to the corridors of governance.
Mr Ngaka requested the residents to think of initiatives such as ISPAAD, LIMID and YDF, among others during the election date.
The aspirant, council candidate, Mr Leuwe told the residents that he was capable to be their councilor as he is conversant with developmental challenges in their ward.
Mr Leuwe said he tabled a number of motions at the mother Kweneng District Council with three of them succeeding.
He urged the residents to trust him as he could not defect from BDP with their ticket. ENDS
