05 Mar 2013

Construction of Radisele Reverse Osmosis Plant is scheduled to commence in March.

Briefing councillors about the project Palapye Sub-district Council chairperson, Mr Onnetse Ramogapi said the project spearheaded by Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development would help in the supply of water to Radisele, Mogome, Mokgware and Tewane.

He said tender for the project had been floated and submitted in December 2012

Mr Ramogapi said the local government ministry was waiting for approval of a project addendum for additional funds after whose evaluation report would be submitted to PPADB. The project, he said was expected to be completed this December.

Regarding the construction of a 400 metre cubic Kobalemakabe Wellfield tank, he said the project was complete and would improve operational efficiency and water supply to the villages of Kgagodi, Diloro, Mogapi and Mogapinyana.

The tank, constructed at the cost of about P966 050 for duration of six months had already been connected to the system.

On equipping boreholes, transmission pipeline and collector tank pump station project, Mr Ramogapi said the project had recently been awarded to Unik Construction at a cost of about P9 million for duration of six months commencing in February.

He said the project was aimed at optimising operation at Patikwane Wellfield for maximum output and increase supply by connection of three additional boreholes.

Furthermore, Mr Ramogapi said Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) in its quest to put measures in place for control and monitoring of water distributed through public standpipes throughout the country had made a decision to embark on a project to equip all standpipes throughout the country with a prepaid facility.

The use of prepaid metres, he said the system would control the way consumers use water and will also instill a sense of responsibility on the part of the consumers.

He said the prepaid public standpipes project had currently been rolled out in at least 18 villages and expected to be completed by end of March.

He added that WUC was aware of the sparse reticulation networks which do not extend to newly allocated plots, adding that an audit had been done in all the villages in the management centre in an effort to establish the extent of growth per each village and requested for funding. ENDS
