Rakhudu is the right candidate - Masisi

25 Aug 2014

The MP for Moshupa, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi says it will be a socio-economic suicide for Batswana to vote for opposition parties in the upcoming general elections.

Launching the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) prospective parliamentary candidate for Gaborone North, Mr Keletso Rakhudu together with six council candidates, Mr Masisi said it would be a setback for the constituents not to re-elect Mr Rakhudu as he had proved to be a capable leader and had produced tangible results as an MP.

Mr Masisi noted that Mr Rakhudu was not a self-centered-person, but a selfless man who was always advocating for the peoples’ health, socio-economic welfare and education for the entire nation. He said voting for opposition parties would be like inviting untold miseries to the country, as they would destroy the economy of the country within two months.

MP Masisi, who is also the acting Minister of Education and Skills Development, said the opposition would try to please the people by increasing public officers’ salaries, a move which would ultimately dry the national coffers.

He said the nation should understand that the country faced budgetary constraints, adding that despite lack of funds, the government continued to double its efforts to improve the lives of Batswana.

Mr Masisi noted that under the current government, there was general respect for the rule of law contrary to what the opposition parties and other people had said.

Another speaker the MP for Molepolole North, Mr Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri said it was a sad development to learn that some members for opposition still held the notion that there was no proper provision of health services in the country.

Mr Matlhabaphiri noted that with the anticipated graduation of the first medical doctors at the University of Botswana this year, the health system in the country would greatly improve.

For his part, the MP for Gaborone West South, Mr Botsalo Ntuane said he was appalled at the way some opposition parties were conducting and encouraging tribalism in the country. He said the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) was at the forefront of this undesirable development that had the potential to divide the country.

Mr Ntuane, however, said under his government, the country would continue with development and national unity to ensure cohesion and tolerance among different tribal communities.

For his part, Mr Rakhudu said through his good leadership he had ensured that Gaborone North sewerage system was in place and working properly.

He said he would continue to advocate for more developments for his constituents and also continue to inform Batswana about the good policies and programmes of the BDP aimed to improve their lives.  Ends
