Swartz pushes for sport complex completion
21 Aug 2014
Minister of Infrastructure, Science and Technology, Mr Johnnie Swartz says it will take a few more months for the Serowe Sport Complex to be fully operational.
Speaking during the tour of the premises, Minister Swartz said the pitch and the grand stand were complete while the drainage system and the water supply were still to be completed.
He said his ministry was working tirelessly with the constructor to ensure that all was in good shape before the facility could be operational. The minister requested the public to exercise patience adding that the ministry would like to see the facility opened for the public.
Permanent secretary with the ministry, Mr Dikagiso Mokotedi said there were still some works like drainage system and water reticulation that were to be attended to , adding that broken pipes had to be changed when renovating the playing ground.
He said the reason why some works were lagging behind was because they wanted everything to be perfect. The problem with the complex was that it was built on black cotton soil and the ministry was doing everything possible to re-address the situation.
He noted that even the playing ground had to be refurbished with artificial turf as natural grass could not be used on black cotton soil.
Mr Mokotedi said they were considering engaging Ipelegeng to clear up the complex so that it looks neat. He noted that everything was working and the administration block would be done on phase 3 of the refurbishment.
He further said the sporting complex would help in developing sport not only in Serowe but also in the central district as a whole. ENDS
