Machinery failure delays project completion

20 Aug 2014

Frequent breaking down of machinery, especially graders is one of the main challenges that the Letlhakeng Sub-district faces in its effort to keep the roads in the sub-district in a good state.

Addressing the sub-council forum on August 18, the sub council chairperson, Councillor Tshoganetso Leuwe said this had affected planned activities hence rescheduling of the remaining works.

Cllr Leuwe however, said despite this challenge, the sub-district had managed to soldier on as approximately 68 km of dry grading was achieved by the end of June this year at Botlhapatlou, Malwelwe, Mantshwabisi, Serinane, Sorilatholo, Diphuduhudu, and Ngware villages.

Concerning the Letlhakeng internal roads project, Cllr Leuwe said there was significant progress into the scheduled completion date of the now ten months old project. “You will recall that various reasons were advanced at early stages of the project, which delayed progress.

As for the exhumation of graves, a consultant has been appointed to commence the works on August 18, 2014,” he said.Reflecting on the successes of the sub district in the last five years, Cllr Leuwe said a number of key projects such as multi-purpose sports facilities at Serinane, tarring of Letlhakeng –Thebephatswa road and bringing into operation Motokwe and Takatokwane service centres

.He said to date the sub district has completed 86 destitute houses, of which 81 were built by the council while five were completed under the Presidential Housing Appeal. In terms of cleanliness, Cllr Leuwe said the Letlhakeng sub district has been the best performing sub district for the past three years in the village cleanliness’ competitions.

“We were awarded position one, under all categories namely, small, medium, large and tertiary villages

. This was achieved because we have outsourced all the 23 villages through Community Based Refuse Collectors/Small Contractors,” he said.
For such achievements, Cllr Leuwe thanked all the stakeholders involved such as the councilors, staff as well as community leaders.

He also encouraged councillors to continue encouraging electorates to go and vote during the general elections scheduled for 24th of October, this year.  ENDS
