Serowe roads undergo maintenance

25 Jun 2014

Serowe Administrative Authority (SAA) has embarked on a less costly concept to maintain the bad condition of Serowe roads.

Responding to a BOPA questionnaire, SAA public relations officer, Ms Joyce Lekgatlhanye said Maphatshwa, Manonnye Primary School, and Simon Ratshosa Primary School access roads were being maintained through the concept of paving instead of the traditional method of re-gravelling which was expensive.
“

"Traditionally road maintenance in Serowe was done through re-gravelling concept and this has been proven to be a costly exercise in Serowe due to the fact that every year during the rainy season the gravel on the roads gets washed off,” she said.

Ms Lekgatlhanye said the topography of the village predominantly comprised of rocky areas on relatively steep slopes and thus increasing the rate at which the gravel is washed off the roads by storm water run-off yearly.

Thus, she said, the introduction of the paving concept was cheaper and aimed to reduce cost as the activity on a particular road gets done once and the maintenance frequency gets reduced.

The public relations officer noted that none of the contractors awarded the tender managed to complete their respective works on time due to the delays in delivery of the construction materials especially paving bricks.

However, she said there was an improvement as the situation has been attended to.

The projects which were awarded to Sego-sa-Botsipa Investments, Drosophillar and Feiza Connections commenced in April 2014 and were expected to be completed in June this year. Ends
