Community grateful for refurbished hall

18 Jun 2014

Debswana Mining Company will hand-over a refurbished hall to the Zwenshambe community on June 20.

In an interview, Kgosi Moses Mabutho of Zwenshambe said the hall was refurbished at a cost of P30  000. He added that the hall was previously in a very bad state and made them lose a lot of money as it could not be rented out.

“We had to turn down a lot of bookings because the hall has not been in use for the last six years,” he said.

He further stated that they eventually had to ask for donations to refurbish the hall. He thanked Debswana for the positive response to their plea. The donation made possible the introduction of new developments such as showers, a ramp for the disabled and a high value ceiling.

About 150 plastic chairs were purchased to replace the corroded stainless steel chairs that were in use. Mr Wazha Moroka, a representative of the Village Development Committee said the Zwenshambe community was working round the clock to ensure that the hand-over ceremony is a success.

Ms Anitha Sithelo, chairperson of the youth arts competitions, which covered Gungwe, Gambule and Zwenshambe, said the arts suffered major setbacks when the community hall was not in use as the youth had no venue at which to hold their arts competitions.

A young artist, Mr Kwanele July, said now that the community hall had been re-opened they will have a place to rehearse and also stage other events to raise funds for the community.

“We will be able to rent out the community hall to other departments and organizations for social events like weddings and meetings,” he said. ENDS
