The Central District Council secretary, Mr Gaolathe Dipholo has said construction of the P81 million new Palapye bus rank is on target.

Responding to a questionnaire from BOPA, Mr Dipholo said the project, which was expected to be complete by October, was now 40 per cent complete. He said construction of the terminal building was at rim level whilst market stalls were at beam filling level.

The project, awarded to MIDO Construction entailed the construction of terminal building, 40 market stalls, bus, taxi, combi and public parking areas. The project will also entail storm water drainage works and about one km of access road to bituminous standard with installation of traffic lights and associated road furniture.

Mr Dipholo said structural steel works was on progress at the main terminal building and dry market stalls, whilst construction of the refuse bays had been completed.
Furthermore, he said construction of the boundary wall and civil works was ongoing whilst link roads including slipping lane are on the road bed layer level.

However, he said at some stage they had a problem with sourcing material from Makoro burrow pit but the problem has since been resolved as an alternative source was identified.

He said currently the contractor is hauling gravel material from Tewane and some material is sourced from private borrow pit at Lecheng and a private quarry behind Morupule B power station.

Regarding the old bus rank, Mr Dipholo said a layout for commercial plots have been designed, therefore the area ha been designated for a commercial mall. Ends
