Majwe mining company has donated P420 000 to Moshupa community for building of the kgotla shelter.
Speaking at a hand over ceremony on June 2, the company’s project director, Mr Ian McRae said the donation was geared towards giving Moshupa community support for the ongoing construction of a kgotla shelter.
The donation revived hope that the project which started in earnest in 2005 would finally be completed. Mr McRae said they had sponsored many projects during their short stint in Botswana.
He noted that much efforts had been concentrated on education, health, poverty eradication, similar sectors and acknowledged that much had not been done in the area of promoting culture and cultural preservation.
He said they made a good decision to consider a suitable project that promoted culture and traditions of Botswana that preserved them for future generations, noting that the shelter depicted Setswana tradition and cultural identity and as such those projects cannot be ignored.
Mr McRae told Moshupa residents that the project was a sustainable long term investment in the community that provided a place for all to gather and be proud of.
He said such a project helped government in tourism and economic diversification through cultural tourism adding that it embraced the country’s Vision 2016 pillar of a united and proud nation.
He commended Moshupa community for raising P343 000 as contributions towards the project saying that showed their commitment and the will to be self-reliant.
Kgosi Oscar Mosielele said the donation marked a turning point in the history of Bakgatla-ba-ga-Mmanaana stressing that Moshupa shelter was big and accessible to people living with disabilities.
He stated that without a kgotla shelter, the village had got no image, identity and shape. He expressed his gratitude to the company noting that the donation will enable them to achieve their dream of having a fully-fledged kgotla shelter. ENDS
