Southern District officially opens falilicities

Pomp and fanfare is expected to be the order of the day when the Southern District Council officially opens its facilities to the public on Friday 30.
The facilities, dating as far back as 2005 to date amounting to millions of Pula included among others; Tomela Council Chambers, trraffic lights, installation of street lights in Kanye, Mabutsane, Moshupa, 50 council staff houses, Ketlogetswe Memorial School, 171 classrooms across the district and many others.
The district public relations officer, Mr Onkabetse Ntwe said in an interview that the day would also double as the ‘people’s day’ where central, local government departments and private entities would erect stalls to display their products and services to members of the public.
The event, according to Mr Ntwe, would follow last council sitting resolution by councillors who sought to have the facilities officially opened to the community.
“It is purely the brainchild of the 64 councillors that make up the district who have also contributed seven beasts, eight goats, three sheep and P41 000 cash towards the event,” he said adding that the council was only assisting with the administrative logistics to make sure the event become a success.
Diplomats from countries such as India, Japan, Zimbabwe, Zambia, China and many others will grace the event.
Locally, other than members of the public, six members of parliament from across the district, dikgosi across the length and breadth of Botswana as well all government departments had been invited to take part in the event.
The theme of the day will be “Pinayagare ya Ditlhabololo Boswa jwa Dikokomane”. Ends
