Rainfall affects Molepolole project
11 May 2014
The excessive rainfall early this year stalled progress of the construction of Molepolole bus rank, resulting in the loss of three weeks of production time, the deputy council secretary (rechnical services) with the Kweneng District Council, Ms Baipelelang Photlokwe has said.
However, Ms Photlokwe told the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Olebile Gaborone on May 8, that the project was 83 per cent complete. She explained that in one instance, the progress stopped pending the removal of poles by the Botswana Power Corporation.
Ms Photlokwe said the remaining work included storm water drainage and sewerage system and roofing at the terminal. She said 72 per cent of the jobs were taken up by citizens, with 22 per cent of those belonging to women. She also said the contractor promised to catch up with time.
For his part, Assistant Minister Gaborone said he was impressed by the progress of the project. He said the reason for the delay was acceptable. He described the contractor as a good example that citizens could do well if given the opportunity. Ends
