Southern District implements 470 Ipelegeng projects

The Southern District Council chairman, Mr Leach Tlhomelang has said the district is implementing a total of 470 projects through Ipelegeng.

Speaking during the on-going council meeting in Kanye, Mr Tlhomelang said 391 were planned projects while 54 were under Tribal Administration while 25 were spill over projects.

He stated that 435 projects had already started while 127 were complete and the remaining 35 were yet to start. He highlighted that the Ipelegeng programme was undertaking a major maintenance of Mmathethe Primary School.

He said two classroom blocks at Sese and Thankane were both at roof level and plastering respectively, two classroom blocks at Leporung were also under construction through Ipelegeng.

Moreover, Councilor Tlhomelang said eight other schools were being maintained through Ipelegeng at a total cost of over P8 million and had spent P1 596.08 so far. He stated that the project was behind schedule due to late procurement of materials.

Mr Tlhomelang also explained that they intended to pave as many roads as possible in the district through Ipelegeng in the coming financial year. He said the paving of the 500m access road to Kgwakgwe staff houses through Ipelegeng was 50 per cent complete adding the 1.5 km access road to Molapowabojang kgotla was on -going.

Mr Tlhomelang said they would also use Ipelegeng to construct more staff houses with the view to address shortage of accommodation for extension staff. BOPA
