Multimillion Pula facelift for shakawe

25 Mar 2014

Government has lined up major development projects for Shakawe in the Okavango Sub-district during the financial year 2014/15, including a primary hospital, a revenue office and staff houses.

Ngamiland District commissioner, Ms Bernadette Malala recently informed councillors that the primary hospital will be constructed at an estimated cost of P45 million.

She said commencement was delayed by the need to align the designs to those demanded by the Council of Health Services Accreditation for Southern Africa. She said the revenue office would cost around P8.5 million and a site had been identified within the government administration locality.

She also revealed that construction of Matshwane clinic in Maun was complete and the clinic had finally been handed over to the user department, Ministry of Health.

While remaining works at Disaneng clinic had been completed, the user department requested for some modifications to the maternity ward, and the council was still attending to the request.

Ms Malala  also told councilors that the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development had funded electrification of some primary schools in the district.

She said some works had been awarded while others were still at tendering stage, adding that primary schools that had been catered for were those which were unconnected but are within the Botswana Power Corporation grid.

She said such schools are in areas like Xakao, Kauxwi, Sekondomboro, Ngarange, Phuduhudu and Letsholathebe, among others.

The project has been funded at about P6.9 million. On other issues, Ms Malala told councilors that some residents whose properties were affected by the Maun Phase II infrastructure project will be compensated.

She said the council has sourced funds for compensation and subsequent relocation of some residents in Boseja and Sedie wards. Ends
